Trish Joyes, BA, MA
Registered Psychotherapist, Certified Canadian Counsellor and the Clinical Director
I decided to take the journey as a therapist due to my passion in understanding situations, providing safe and compassionate spaces, and being openly honest as best we can. So I like working with teens, young adults and adults as unique individuals and I can work along side them with their struggles and concerns.
My passion, it showed me the path to becoming a therapist in my journey learning neurodivergent with ASD, AuDHD and ADHD, particularly because I am neurodivergent too. I am familiar with neurodivergent from multiple ways as myself and other loved ones in my life. What I find most fascinating is how taking this journey and learning more, both personally and professionally, I always hope to understand complex individuals, particularly first responders and military because of the impact of their intense careers on their daily life. I have gained more interest and knowledge here because many loved ones are in the field or are currently taking the steps to reach first responder or military.
My goal as your therapist is to support individual’s with their daily life struggles, which include many concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, relationships, organization, and many others based on their lifestyle.
Some strategies I use for my own well-being is some of the simplest of ways, yet oddly difficult to maintain, which is listening to my body to tell me emotions and thoughts. Another way is knowing my limitations and setting boundaries. And I cannot leave out watching tv or movies, a nice walk, and a nice cup of coffee in the morning!

Are you curious about Trish?
What made you decide to choose your role as a therapist?
“I have always been taught how we need to take care of ourselves to take care of those we love. So, I saw those I love reach situations that a therapist would have made a huge difference, yet nothing happened in that direction. As watching that, it helped me see why I wanted to take the journey to be a therapist and continue to be a better one as I move forward.”
What is your favourite place to find inspiration?
“Sitting in a place in nature where I can hear the wind breeze in the trees or the water in a lake moving to the shore. My favourite is an old memory I hold dear that reminds me of a rock I loved to sit on that was right in the forest beside the lake. It let me hear the wind and lake at the same time, bringing an inner sense of peace and would inspire me to think past moments when I feel stuck.”
What are the top 3 things you do to keep healthy?
“The first thing I do is pay attention to my body that is quick to do. I take notice if my shoulders are tense or I’m pacing, which would tell me a lot around anxiety and help me fine tune my emotions and thoughts. Second, is making sure I’m walking while listening to music so I can sing too! And third, remember those I care for and are my support team. Remember to be there for them and that they are there for me too, which is so helpful in communication, releasing tension, and also celebrating joy and successes!"
What are some of your favourite things to do?
“I love to watch shows or movies on Netflix from fantasy to action to comedy and more. I also play board games with my family and friends…I have a massive collection of them! And enjoy eating out for dinner or being out in nature for a hike, camping or just breathing it in!”
Why would a potential client come to Kindred Hope?
“Each therapist has similar skills, yet such unique experiences too and at different stages in our lives and careers. A similarity in our therapists is each of us are familiar with neurodivergent folks. We also provide virtual therapy with the benefit and convenience for clients to be in their preferred spaces and even move around as they need to. Not all of us can just sit still, all we ask is you maintain your privacy during your sessions.”
What are you biggest interests that show a bit about you?
“Honestly, I have too many. I love to read all types of books and music, especially since I am always curious about new things. I have crystals and faerie doors throughout my home! Also enjoy doing martial arts. An odd habit is finding broken (or chipped) items in some stores because I feel like they need a home, not ignored and thrown away. I would definitely say I’m quirky and eclectic.”
