Alexandra Postings, MA (CAND.)

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) & Intern Therapist

I began my journey towards therapy when I became aware of the many struggles that people face in their daily lives. I believe that therapy can be beneficial for everybody to help us grow as unique individuals in our own experiences. My goal as a psychotherapist is to provide a unique and personalized way to help individuals discover themselves and find tools and techniques to help them move more smoothly through life.

My passion for helping others began the more I became aware of the struggles that people were facing around me. My own struggles with mental illness and seeing many of my family and friends also face mental illness and neurodivergence, drove me to this path of therapy. My own experience with therapy as a teenager helped me realize the importance that therapy has in not only healing but also understanding our true selves. Through my education and personal experiences, I have come to realize that mental illness is a broad spectrum that can affect individuals differently; each experience is unique. I believe that mental health is not about reaching a destination, but about a continuous journey of understanding and acceptance. I believe that therapy is a partnership between client and counsellor; this allows me to approach therapy with the belief that each person holds the key to their own healing, and my goal is to help you reach this.

My goal as a therapist is to create a non-judgmental environment where individuals feel comfortable, as well as seen, heard and valued. I aim to support those struggling in their daily lives by helping them manage their concerns such as stress, time management, anxiety, depression, ADHD and relationships. Through the use of CBT, DBT, mindfulness-based therapy, and humanistic approaches, I hope to help you on your journey to healing.

Some ways I maintain my own well-being are through spending time with my family and friends, watching television, going on a walk with my dog and son, thrifting and starting my day with a hot cup of tea or coffee.

Are you curious about Alexandra?

Since I was young, I have always known I wanted to help people. It wasn’t until high school when I became aware of my own mental illness and all of those struggling with mental illness around me that I came to realize just how I wanted to help others. It was at this moment that I became the listening ear that my friends would go to when they needed someone to talk to. Going through therapy as a teenager also helped me to realize the importance and benefits that therapy can have on an individual and I knew I wanted to be that person for others.

My favourite place to find inspiration is through conversing with others. Opening my mind to the thoughts, perspectives, opinions and experiences of others allows me to broaden my knowledge and views of the world around me and the unique individuals in it.

To be healthy I believe there needs to be a balance between physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual health. I maintain my physical health through physical exercise, such as going on walks with my son and dog or going on hikes with my husband. I maintain my mental/emotional health through talking with friends and family, as well as practicing mindfulness exercises. I maintain my spiritual health by connecting with nature and expressing gratitude to the environment and individuals around me.

I value openness and honesty in a client. I want my clients to feel comfortable sharing with me and being honest with not only themselves but also with me. I want them to feel comfortable to let me know if what I am saying does not resonate with them or if I misunderstood them.

Some of my favourite things to do are going to the beach, thrift shopping, listening to music, watching Formula 1, and spending time with my family and friends.
