Claire Yu, MA (cand.)
Intern
People often consider therapy when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of what to do next. For a young person, this may involve friendships, school, family expectations, identity, or strong emotions. For an adult, it may be anxiety, parenting, work, relationship stress, or the pressure of caring for everyone while putting personal needs aside.
I work with children aged 10 and older, teens, young adults, adults, and parents. I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism and ADHD, as well as people experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, low self-esteem, relationship concerns, parenting challenges, and life transitions.
My professional background includes working closely with children, families, and educators in early intervention and inclusive child care settings. This experience has taught me to look beyond behaviour and consider what a person may be feeling, communicating, or needing. I also understand how a child’s needs can affect the whole family and how difficult it can be for parents to sort through different advice while trying to do what is best for their child.
My approach is warm, practical, and collaborative. I draw from cognitive
behavioural, psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, strengths-based, and
trauma-informed approaches, depending on what fits the individual. I am also mindful of how culture, family relationships, past experiences, and personal beliefs can shape the way we understand ourselves and respond to challenges.
I am not here to judge you or give you quick answers. I will listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you make sense of what is happening
beneath the surface. Together, we can identify what matters most to you, build on the strengths you already have, and find strategies that feel
realistic in your daily life.

Are you curious about Claire?
What made you decide to choose your role as a therapist?
My decision to become a therapist grew naturally from my work in early intervention and family support. Working closely with children, parents, and educators showed me that people often need more than information or practical strategies. They also need a safe place to talk, feel understood, and make sense of what they are experiencing. Over time, I became more curious about how early experiences, relationships, culture, and family dynamics shape the way people understand themselves and respond to challenges. Becoming a therapist allows me to bring my knowledge of child development and family support together with counselling skills. I chose this role because I value listening to people’s stories, understanding what may be happening beneath the surface, and supporting them as they find their own way forward.
