Hilary Becker, MA (Cand.)

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), Intern

I come to this work with professional training and lived experiences that influence how I understand people, resilience, and the challenges that impact mental health. They shape my commitment to offering therapy that is respectful, clear, and grounding, and to creating a space where clients feel supported from the start. My clinical interests focus on neurodiversity, identity development, and the ways receiving a diagnosis can influence and shift a person’s sense of self.

I am particularly interested in working with neurodivergent clients, including those exploring new diagnoses, navigating masking and burnout, or making sense of longstanding patterns that were previously misunderstood. I am also drawn to work that examines how illness and caregiving dynamics shape family functioning, communication, and emotional regulation.

I work with teens and adults who are navigating anxiety, burnout, chronic illness, identity questions, relationship stress, grief, or major life changes. I have a strong interest in supporting neurodivergent clients, including individuals who are exploring new diagnoses or trying to make sense of longstanding patterns. I also pay close attention to how family roles, expectations, and stressors can influence someone’s well-being. I also have experience in educational and behavioural settings, supporting children and families through structured and strengths-based approaches.

In therapy, I focus on helping clients understand what they’re experiencing, identify patterns that are getting in the way, and build tools that support meaningful change. I aim to make sessions approachable and collaborative, focusing on strengths, small steps, and what feels realistic in everyday life. My style is warm, steady, and practical. You do not need to have the “right” words or a clear plan — wherever you are, I will meet you there.

I believe that therapy begins with feeling genuinely seen, and I look forward to supporting clients as they take their first steps into this work.

Are you curious about Hilary?

I chose to become a therapist because growing up with a critical illness meant facing mental-health challenges my family wasn’t always equipped to support. Those early experiences taught me what it feels like to carry a lot on my own and how powerful it can be to finally have a space where someone listens with steadiness and care. The therapeutic spaces I found became a place to slow down, make sense of what felt overwhelming, and learn grounding skills I could actually use in my real life. Knowing how transformative that was for me motivates the way I show up now: creating a clear, calming, and supportive environment where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace and build tools they can bring into the rest of their world.

I find my inspiration outdoors on my property, usually while exploring with my dogs. The quiet, steady pace of being in nature helps me ground myself and return to my work with a clearer perspective.

I stay healthy by sticking closely to my medical routines, spending lots of time with my dogs, and creating a calm, steady work space that helps me feel grounded.

I’m happiest when I’m reading, exploring local markets, celebrating holidays, or discovering new places with great food.
